Maharashtra Association of Social Work Educators

A Champion for the cause of degradation & strenthening of Social Work Education

GENESIS

The Maharashtra Association of Social Work Educators (MASWE) was founded with the vision of fostering excellence in social work education, research, and practice across the state of Maharashtra. The association emerged from the collective efforts of dedicated academicians, researchers, and practitioners who recognized the need for a unified platform to advance the discipline of social work in alignment with regional and national socio-economic challenges.

Need Of MASWE

Maharashtra has long been a hub of social movements, reform initiatives, and community-driven interventions. However, despite the growing demand for professionally trained social workers, there existed a gap in collaborative efforts among educators to enhance curriculum standards, pedagogy, and fieldwork practices. MASWE was established to bridge this gap and to create a network where educators could exchange ideas, share best practices, and collectively contribute to the evolution of social work education.

Our Commitment

MASWE remains committed to advancing the discipline of social work by fostering a culture of academic excellence, ethical practice, and innovation. Through conferences, workshops, and publications, the association continues to provide a dynamic platform for social work educators to engage in meaningful discourse and contribute to the betterment of society.

Early Initiatives

MASWE was formally constituted in 1993 by a group of visionary social work educators representing various universities and institutions across Maharashtra. Their objective was to create an association that would:

  • Promote academic collaboration and research in social work.
  • Strengthen the integration of theory and practice in social work education.
  • Facilitate capacity-building programs for educators and students.
  • Advocate for policies that support social work education and professional development.
